Over the years spent in this industry, we have been so fortunate to meet new brides on a regular basis. We deal with nerves, excitement, anticipation, and that final sigh of relief when a successful reception comes to an end. The happiness pouring out of these newlyweds truly is contagious, and by the end we get to know that we were part of their happily ever after. Some days I think it can't get much better, being there for the beginning, until the Roberts walked in and allowed us entry to a love story already started.
On May 1st, 2021, Gwendolyn Denice Roberts and Derrick Dewayne Roberts celebrated 22 years of marriage by renewing their vows on our white sandy beaches. I'm not sure what I was expecting from a couple with over 20 years under their belts, but what I did get was a rare look into an extremely successful companionship. I saw such an equal balance of both peace and excitement as these two joyfully returned to newlywed status.
Wanting to know more about their success, I asked Gwen a few questions.
Britt- "How did you two meet?"
Gwen- "We met in high school, during a Jr. ROTC trip."
Britt- "What does 22 years of marriage look like for you?"
Gwen- "Our marriage started young, when we were only 18 and 19 years old. Over the course of 22 years, we learned to compromise and love intentionally every day. We have always put God first because nothing is too hard for him. Our marriage has been made of many happy days and some bad days, but God has been good to us. "
Britt- "Any advice to engaged couples?"
Gwen- "Always put God first and remember to communicate and compromise. If one of us lose, than we both lose."
I think it's safe to say that these two have at least another 22 in the future. Congratulations once again to Mr. and Mrs. Roberts.
